Wilderness First Aid Weekend

Hands-on training for real-world wilderness emergencies.

65 US dollars
NCWG Civil Air Patrol HQ

Service Description

Spend two days building the knowledge and skills you need to respond when help is hours away. Our Wilderness First Aid Weekend combines essential lecture topics (Day 1, Burlington) with practical, hands-on scenarios in the woods (Day 2, Prospect Hill). Whether you're heading out for a day hike, a backcountry camping trip, or a weekend adventure, this course prepares you to manage common medical emergencies in remote settings. You'll learn how to: - Assess patients and prioritize care when resources are limited - Recognize and manage traumatic injuries like fractures, bleeding, and head injuries - Handle environmental emergencies such as heat illness, hypothermia, and altitude sickness - Perform improvised splinting, bandaging, and evacuation techniques - Make decisions about when and how to move patients - Communicate effectively in emergencies without immediate outside help Day 1 will be at the NCWG Civil Air Patrol HQ in Burlington, 8:30AM–5PM, with a 30-minute lunch break. Day 2 will be at a 300-acre private property in Prospect Hill, 3–9PM (to give us time for night training!). At the end of the weekend, participants will earn their HSI Wilderness First Aid certification — and the confidence to step up when it matters most. WFA education is not typically required for a job but is strongly preferred for any role where you are responsible for others in the outdoors. This class is perfect for camp counselors, search and rescue volunteers, outdoor education instructors, forestry / trail maintenance workers, park ranger aides, etc. — OR anybody interested in getting out in nature! ** AGE MINIMUM OF 16
